Metro Pizza refers to itself as “America’s Neighborhood Pizzeria” and it fits. The pizza shop is very family oriented and has a lot of variety to serve everyone. 86th Street Square Pie

If you read our review of what went down at the inaugural Las Vegas Pizza Festival and all of the delicious pizza we tried, then you might recall us discussing Metro Pizza’s “5-Day Rise Sicilian Pizza.” We talked about how the Metro Pizza menu didn’t have anything that specifically said 5-Day Rise Sicilian Pizza, but there is the “86th Street Square Pie” (pictured above).

The 86th Street Square Pie is filling. For those looking for a little less of a meal, there is a Brooklyn Jr. option available. We added pepperoni to it, the old-school, cup-n-char style. The pie is a big one, both in surface area and thickness. The full size had 12 large square pieces and they were heavy. The pie was without a doubt filling, but it was also very tasty.

The 86th Street Square Pie is a Sicilian-style pizza. From Metro Pizza’s menu, it comes with “creamy Mozzarella topped with a Brooklyn splash of slow simmered tomato sauce, Romano cheese and a drizzle of olive oil.”

It’s pretty thick but can still be considered light for how thick it is. The crust gives a nice crunch to it that’s not too much and the middle is certainly on the softer side, although it shouldn’t be under-cooked and ours wasn’t. If we did have a gripe on the crust, it’s that the two middle pieces of the full-size pie didn’t have any crust. That said, plenty of people like the middle pieces with no crust.

Among all of the pizza’s parts – dough, sauce, cheese, and in this case pepperoni – the sauce stood out the most. It had a noticeable zest to it that was very much enjoyed. As for the pepperoni, we really like cup-n-char pepperoni and Metro Pizza did not disappoint with theirs. The pepperoni cupped up very nicely to allow the edges to get a slight char to them.

As we said, the full-size 86th Street Square Pie was a big one, so we had a couple pieces left over. We wrapped those up and put them in the fridge. The next day, the pieces heated up very nicely and tasted just as good. Something that can be easily overlooked with pizza is its shelf life. We get it, most pizza in eating in one sitting and not everyone likes leftover good. That said, the 86th Street Square Pie was just as delicious the following day as it was the night we ordered it.

Old New York

Metro Pizza Old New York

The Old New York from Metro Pizza may be one of our favorite pizzas in all of Las Vegas. It’s a pretty straightforward pie, but very good. If you look at the Metro Pizza menu, you’ll notice it reads that the Old New York is the “original classic cheese pizza.” The look of the pizza may give off modern appeal, but it’s definitely a classic.

The sauce is our favorite part of Metro Pizza’s Old New York, although everything involved in the pizza works very well together. The brightness of the sauce laid out on top of the cheese is vibrant and draws you in. Just by the look of it, your taste buds will start doing back flips. Good crunch accompanies the pizza’s flavor, and you know we love our crunch. We’ve had this pizza on multiple occasions, and each time the crust has be baked just about right, complete with some plump charred air pockets along the outer rim of the pie.

If you couldn’t already tell from the look of the Old New York, one bite into a slide will let you know the cheese is different than the typical shredded mozzarella cheese you often find used on a cheese pizza. The Old New York uses thick slices of mozzarella, giving the pizza a nice, even melt of cheese across the surface. Whether you get it with some shredded basil sprinkled across the top or pass on the basil, you should enjoy this one.
